Okay so technically its not the weekend, but I'll be gone until thursday evening so its essentially the same time. It was a little spontaneous; I made the decision to go just hours before leaving. Has anyone else ever had to pack on a time crunch? Well I've done it quite a few times (hello my name is procrastination) so I've assembled a few tips for packing in a hurry::
|| think comfort. You want to be able to enjoy your break away from reality- not spend your time fidgeting. New pair of shoes? A weekend walking around the town and being all touristy might not be the best time to break them in.
|| plan versatile outfits. Planning your outfits ahead of time will help keep you on track. You don't need five pairs of jeans. Above I've paired three separate outfits. However, each piece could easily be rearranged to match your mood. Normally I try to pack comfortable bottoms and simple tops that can easily be layered.
|| accessorize. Definitely key! Simple tops call for a bold necklace or chunky scarf that could fool anyone into thinking that you aren't living out of a suitcase.
|| shoes. You don't need your entire collection. If you want to bring boots, wear them when you travel so you don't take up as much room in your suitcase.
|| exercise. If you are staying in a hotel, take advantage of their gym! Spend 30-45 minutes one morning doing a little cardio, and then treat yourself to their yummy breakfast options afterwards. :) I could very easily convince myself that I don't have room/time to bring exercise clothes and workout, but I always feel so much better after I do.
|| bags. Bags can be tricky, especially if you have plans for multiple occasions. I'll normally have my suitcase, and then carry a larger transport tote with me as well. The one above is a brown leather bag from Madwell, and its the perfect size to fit all your purse goodies, plus a book or magazine and a smaller, dressier clutch for dinner.
note: If you make the decision to go on a trip the night before you leave and are planning on packing in the morning, it definitely helps to make a list of everything you need the night before. That way you're not stressed about time, and you'll be able to think clearly about everything you need. And it eliminates all chances of forgetting anything if you're using a checklist in the morning!
p.s. Think about your basics.
